Kdenlive 0.7.7 Released

February 17, 2010 Leave a comment

From the Kdenlive Release Notes page

Kdenlive 0.7.7 was released on the 17th of february 2010.

This release fixes a lot of bugs reported against Kdenlive 0.7.6, including timeline corruption and various crashes. We also fixed a compatibility issue with Qt 4.6. We hope that this new release will make the video editing experience easier and more comfortable for everyone!

Kdenlive requires the latest release of the MLT video framework (0.5.0)

Some of the new features

  • User selectable color schemes
  • Improved keyboard navigation
  • Timeline editing mode (normal, overwrite)
  • Fix compatibility issue with Qt 4.6
  • Allow shutdown after render when using Gnome Session manager
  • Improved titler (now supports font outline)
  • Editing properties for several clips at once (for example aspect ratio)

A complete list of the fixed issues can be found on our bugtracker.

Kdenlive 0.7.6 Released

October 9, 2009 Leave a comment

Just 3 months after the last release, Kdenlive is out with 0.7.6. They even had a pre-release message on their homepage for the last week or so.

The new features are:

  • Title module: rewrite, now allows for basic animation (title zoom & scroll)
  • Track rename: users can now rename tracks
  • Composite transition: keyframes can now be moved
  • Clip management: image and audio clips are automatically monitored and updated in the timeline whenever they change on disk
  • User interface cleanup: cleaner look for timeline
  • Capture monitor improvements: now shows available disk space & timecode, also allows to choose a name for captured files
  • Project management: project settings dialog now allows you to clear the thumbnails cache and delete all videoclips that are not used in the project
  • Improved clip markers: they are now displayed in the clip monitor ruler, and user can easily go to each marker from the context menu
  • Shutdown computer after rendering

Apparently stability is improved as well, through using the latest 0.4.6 version of the MLT Framework.

Read all the details on the Release Notes page and download the application from the Kdenlive website.

Kdenlive 0.7.5 Released

July 2, 2009 Leave a comment

Popular open source non-linear video editing tool Kdenlive has just seen version 0.7.5 released. The team are making pretty regular releases and updates to this software. It’s good to see some decent velocity behind this project.

There’s an interesting Discover Kdenlive 0.7.5 page available, outlining the main changes without having to wade through heavy release notes. The main changes in this version include:
  • Timeline vertical zoom (make tracks smaller or larger in one click)
  • Stability improvement (fix issues with clip and group move / delete)
  • Non realtime playing in monitors, allows to see your editing frame by frame
  • Keyframe editor for effects
  • Template text clips
  • Improved titler (allow for right / bottom alignment of objects), allow unicode characters
  • New dialog reporting missing clips when opening a project
  • Save a copy of the Project Profile in Kdenlive document to make it easier to work on another computer
  • Save last used Rendering Profile in document so it appears by default when reopening
  • Rewrote and improved the thumbnail creator (that creates preview thumbs for your project file for KDE’s file managers)

A new version of the MLT framework (Media Lovin’ Toolkit now at 4.4) that Kdenlive is built on top of was also released today.

Kdenlive 0.7.4 Released, Makes it Easy to Try

June 20, 2009 Leave a comment

Although released a few weeks ago, the new Kdenlive 0.7.4 version is progressing nicely. The current release notes list the following updates:

  • Compatibility with the new 0.4.x versions of MLT
  • Rendering jobs now start one after another instead of all together
  • Rewritten DVD wizard, allowing for chapters, several buttons in menu and easy preview
  • Start of a transcoding feature, allowing to easily convert a clip in another format
  • Long list of bug fixes.

Not only are the Kdenlive team providing the usual packages for different Linux flavours (Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo, Mandriva, OpenSUSE), they’re making it very easy for a wider range of users to try the software. The following downloads are also available:

We’re not aware of any other FOSS non-linear video editing tool that makes it so easy for new users to test and try the software.

Kdenlive 0.7.3 Released

April 18, 2009 Leave a comment

April 15th saw the latest release of increasingly popular Linux Non-Linear Video editing software, Kdenlive. Now at version 0.7.3, this video editor seems to be one of the few in the Linux arena making regular progress and updates.

Occasionally a new PiTiVi blog post if made about future plans or minor improvements. Open Movie Editor has been very quiet for many months. It feels like Kdenlive and Blendor are the only two Linux video editors still making solid advances.

Anyway, Kdenlive 0.7.3′s major new features are as follows:

  • Clip grouping
  • Creation of rendering scripts for delayed rendering
  • Double pass encoding for rendering (just add “pass=2″ to your profile)
  • Track locking
  • Configurable monitor background color for better previewing
  • Web updates: you can now download new rendering profiles from Kdenlive’s web site
  • Split audio, allows you to separate a clip in it’s audio and video parts
  • Improved compatibility with Kdenlive 0.5 project files

Read more of the Release Notes on the Kdenlive website.

Kdenlive is starting to increasingly look like the Linux NLE of choice, for those who don’t have the time or inclination to figure out Blender’s complex User Interface.
